System offers complete control over coil features including height, thickness and diameter

Artos Engineering Company, a Waukesha-based manufacturer of wire processing equipment, has recently introduced the CD-15, a motorized level wind coiling and collection system. Designed to allow maximum adjustability and control over the finished coil shape, the CD-15 serves as a collection device for the CS-326 wire processor. This combination provides customers with the technology necessary to produce coiled cable ready for immediate packaging and shipment.

"The CD-15 offers our customers a better way to provide coiled product as a presentation-ready package," says John Olsen II, president of Artos Engineering. "Other coiling solutions on the market only let users adjust the coil's inner diameter. The CD-15 lets users adjust the height and thickness of the coil, resulting in a consistent and more tightly wound coil every time."

The CD-15 features simple operation. Coil pins in this unit can be adjusted to specify the coil diameter, height and shape. As the cable is fed from the CS-326 into the CD-15 through the telescoping guide tube, the system positions and secures the cable at a specified point where it is wound by the level-winding unit ensuring consistent coiling.

Upon completion, the automatic coil pins retract allowing the user to easily remove the coil and bind it. The finished product is a consistent coil that easily fits into packaging and, in most cases, can be immediately distributed.

The CD-15 is useful for coiling cables such as extension cords and coaxial cable, among others. Cables up to 12.5 millimeters (1/2 inch) can be fed into the system. Additionally, the inner coil diameter is adjustable from 100 to 305 millimeters (four to 12 inches), and the coil height can be adjusted up to 100 millimeters (four inches) to meet various specifications.
